about

Revelation! We wanted an original song with a steady, funky groove, similar to the second half of our version of Guantanamera (In fact, this song's first name was "Guantanamera Simile"). Playing this song live is a bit of a challenge because the tempo has to be *just* right to really cook-- and when it's right, boy is it fun to play!

The vocal style is inspired by the Butthole Surfers' song "Pepper." Love the uniqueness of steady vocals with just drums-- so awesome. The lyrics speak of a demon or a repeating/nagging feeling inside someone's head that just won't quit. Yet this entity goes way when you realize you can actually control it, hence, "Revelation."

The melody gives is a super sexy vibe. The chorus is really cool (wow we'd love to play that with a full chorus "one day ..."), especially with the slight rap "en espanol," and the key change is a nod to a trad session going from minor tune to major. Keyboard polyphony creates a "third" melody if you listen closely. For the ending, think All You Need is Love ... live, Cory and TJ go nuts and get weird looks and sometimes break out into Hendrix ...

lyrics

Verse 1:
You're with me everyday, an entity all mixed up in my mind.
You soak up every second, every minute, then rewind.
Affecting all decisions, controlling all reactions,
Your everlasting presence is my ultimate distraction.

Chorus (instrumental)

Verse 2:
I try to block out every trace of you to unload all this cargo, but
No matter what the language, yo no puedo evitarlo.
Like human subjugation, like tyranny in my nation,
Your power as a downer is defying explanation.

Chorus:
One day, you'll see me.
I'll move along and you will be history.
No mas, hoy me despido,
Me voy por el camino,
Voy buscando me destino.

Verse 3:
Round and round I hear it loud, it's really something cyclical.
Your hold on me reminds me of the song by Smokey's Miracles.
Perpetual affliction, no effective mediation,
No remedy to rid me of your mental saturation.

Chorus (vocal)

Bridge
I've got your voices out of my mind,I know, I know I will survive

Verse 4:
I'll focus on the silence, that's when I'll plan the solution,
I'll concentrate my energy and end your revolution.
I know I can repel you 'cause I had a revelation,
You're in my head, which I control, the greatest situation.
